The Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival could be set for its first disruption following an investigation by Racing Victoria over an alleged COVID breach of some the states leading trainers.
The Herald Sun has reported that Racing Victoria is investigation a potentially illegal lunch by some of the states leading trainers on Thursday at the Tuki Trout Farm in Smeaton.
Racing Victoria’s integrity team will instigate the lunch which included up to twelve trainers after the racing body became aware of the gathering after two of the attendees were close contacts of a person awaiting a COVID test.
“As a result, the other trainers in attendance at the luncheon were identified as secondary contacts and asked not to attend their stables on Friday morning pending the result of that test,” a Racing Victoria spokesman said.
“They were all cleared on Friday night to resume attendance at licensed premises and racecourses.”
Despite the clearance Racing Victoria will probe the circumstances to see if COVID protocol rules were breached.
