The curtain has fallen on Spanish Mission’s spring journey with looming decisions about his racing future. The import, who made a comeback from a tendon injury during the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes, was notably absent from the Geelong Cup. The reason: wear and tear on his off foreleg.
In a video posted on social media, Moody initially hinted at Spanish Mission’s retirement. However, while speaking to RSN927, he clarified that the horse’s destiny lies in the hands of the ownership group, with decisions imminent.
“We have decided to halt Spanish Mission’s spring campaign,” Moody said.
“He’s sound. He rehabbed successfully from a tendon injury in his near foreleg. But as quite often the case with horses, they load up what is ultimately their good leg.
“He’s sustained a bit of wear and tear on his off foreleg. We just feel he couldn’t have raced successfully, and couldn’t have raced pain free.”
