Peter and Paul Snowden are set to have two Villiers Stakes runners, led by I Am Superman

The lingering wet weather in Sydney is the only concern for trainers Peter and Paul Snowden ahead of I Am Superman ‘s Villiers Stakes bid.

The gelding’s best form is on firm tracks and with rain and storms again on the radar for the bulk of next week, the Snowdens have their fingers crossed that Randwick will avoid the worst of it.

“We are really happy with our bloke. Just hopefully she stays dry,” Paul Snowden said.

I Am Superman was competitive against some of the country’s best sprinters earlier in his preparation and finished fifth to Masked Crusader in the Premiere Stakes (1200m) in October.

The stable took him to Melbourne for a Group 3 assignment and he beat all but the promising Sinawann, which despite being a losing result was an effort Paul Snowden rated among the horse’s best.

“He ran a PB the other day, ‘Superman’,” Snowden said.

“I think the winner is going to figure in next year’s carnival. It has got a pretty big future.

“He (Sinawann) just sat on his back and popped out and got him the last furlong.”

I Am Superman hasn’t won beyond 1500 metres in Australia, but he was successful over a mile in Europe.

Tommy Berry has been booked to ride him in the Group 2 Villiers Stakes (1600m) on Saturday with Robbie Dolan retaining the mount on stablemate Exoboom.

A Randwick winner three starts ago, Exoboom made good ground from back in the field to finish fifth to Count De Rupee in The Gong last start.

The Villiers will be one of four stakes races on next weekend’s program along with the Listed Razor Sharp Handicap (1200m), Christmas Cup (2400m) and Inglis Nursery (1000m).
