The Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained Santa Ana Lane is headed to The TAB Everest at Royal Randwick on October 17 with Coolmore selecting the eight-year-old gelding for their slot in the world’s richest race on turf.
Santa Ana Lane was victorious at Group 1 level for the fifth time in last year’s TJ Smith Stakes at Randwick and among the runs since, there have been runner-up finishes to Yes Yes Yes in last year’s Everest and Nature Strip in this year’s TJ Smith Stakes.
“It’s a great privilege to have Santa Ana Lane in the Everest for the third year running” said co-trainer Anthony Freedman.
“Given his record at Randwick over 1200m we were confident he would receive a slot so it has been our sole focus this preparation.
“It’s a race that continues to grow in popularity each year and we are proud to be involved.
“We’re very pleased to be teaming up with Coolmore as they have been long time clients of the stable.
Santa Ana Lane is set to resume on Saturday at Flemington in the Gilgai Stakes over 1200 metres.
Santa Ana Lane who is currently $21 at the TAB for The Everest has raced 41 times for 10 wins, four seconds and five thirds.
TAB’s representative for The TAB Everest, Nature Strip, is currently the $3.50 favourite.
