Lark Hill trainer Stephen Miller is very much liking the way his talented juvenile Saintorio is going about his business.
The Oratorio gelding banked another win on Saturday to stamp his claims for rich two-year-old races that loom in the next couple of months.
Saintorio let down strongly after jockey Shaun Mcgruddy found cover from a wide draw and defeated last-start winner Fiorucci Mama by just under a length.
The Amelia Park Plate (1100m) success was two in a line for Saintorio after he won his maiden in equally impressive fashion from another wide gate two weeks previous.
Miller says Saintorio is a laid back customer that was adapting to his early introduction to racing with ease.
“He’s a ripper,” Miller told Tabradio.
“He’s pulled up good.
“He just eats, sleeps and works, that’s about him.
“He’s just a casual little bugger, but goes about his trade really good.
“He’s not really big, but he’s solid.
“Where he leads to I don’t know, but he’s a gem.”
While Saintorio is on a Karrakatta Plate (1200m) path, Perth’s richest race for two-year-olds, Miller also has eyes on a feature three-year-old race with Bell Lap.
The son of Bradbury’s Luck maintained solid form when he claimed his second win from six starts in a 1650m class one race at Belmont last Wednesday.
Miller is hopeful Bell Lap can progress to the WA Derby (2400m).
“He’s got a very good stayers heart rate to me,” Miller said.
“I’ll put him in a 2000m race and see where we are.
“He’ll have to measure up to the class, but I think he will definitely stay.
“That’s one thing in his favour.”
Meanwhile Miller says Last Of The Line’s future from a tendon injury should become clearer soon.
The Blackfriars gelding, a winner of the Detonator Stakes (1800m) 12-months back, has not raced since the Northerly Stakes (1400m) last October.
“He’s in the paddock and due to get scanned in probably another three weeks’ time,” Miller said.
“We’ll see how he is after that.”
