Star stayer Russian Camelot will not be given another chance at winning a Melbourne Cup with trainer Danny O’Brien stating the horse will not run over 3200m again.
Russian Camelot was the early market favourite for the Melbourne Cup until he was beaten in the Cox Plate and despite running a credible eight in the race he won’t be given a chance to win the 2021 Melbourne Cup.
“He will never run a 3200-metre race again,” O’Brien told Racing.com
“I think he ran as good as he could, but he didn’t quite stay the strong two mile as it was on the day,”
“He gave us everything he had and he came up short.”
Russian Camelot has now gone for a spell with no Autumn plans yet mapped out.
