The Rex Lipp trained Simply Fly is a now a four-time winner from only six starts after taking out the QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday.
The Spirit Of Boom gelding won the first and the last start of his first preparation and he has extended his current winning sequence to three straight wins having won both of his starts since resuming from a four month layoff.
Simply Fly got home by producing sustained acceleration, coming from behind after being last early and still more than four lengths back with 200m left to run.
It was an inch perfect ride by Stephanie Thornton who has now partnered Simply Fly in his last three wins.
“Steph (Thornton) has got the answer to him,” said Lipp. “If you jump him out and hunt him up and try to hold your position, he over-races.
“What we do now is jump him out … get him to relax.
“There is not many 1000m races for him, so let’s see if he gets over more ground. I think he will now we’ve got him to relax.
“Look, he is learning and there is a lot of improvement in the horse, but he has still got a lot of learning to do.
‘He is by Spirit Of Boom and his dam is Express Air who won the Queensland Guineas. I trained her and went into partnership with some of the chaps who are in Simply Fly.”
Stephanie Thornton later completed a double on the day when saluting on Kylease in the final race on the card.
