The chance of rain in Melbourne leading up to the $5m Caulfield Cup is set to increase the chances of one of the outsiders of the field.
The Kris Lees trained Mustajeer has been given next to no chance by bookies with Sportsbet listing him as a $126 in betting but if the track receives solid rain his travelling foreman Cameron Swan thinks he comes right into contention.
“I think (Mustajeer) is going the right way. It’s going to be hard for him, but I think he is going the right way,” Swan told Racing.com.
“He doesn’t want a firm track at all and the prospect of rain is good.
“He is a good-enough horse to be competitive on his day. I really think he will run his best race of his preparation, he looks great and feels great.”
The scratching of Aktau has seen the stable gain a start with Raheen House who much like his stablemate isn’t given much hope by the market and is likely to jump as the rank outsider in the field with his current Caulfield Cup price being $201.
