Here’s what is making news in racing this Wednesday morning.
- Last Saturday’s Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) winner Shocking is out of the autumn carnival. Trainer Mark Kavanagh is eyeing off another tilt at the Melbourne Cup in the spring.
- Lightly raced galloper Glintz has opened favourite for tomorrow’s Group 3 Newcastle Newmarket (1300m), with the galloper needing to win the race to gain a start in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m)
- Nash Rawiller has decided to stick with Foxwedge for the Golden Slipper. It was thought that Gai Waterhouse may force him to ride Shared Reflections. Damien Oliver will now ride the Sweet Embrace Stakes winner.
- Sepoy will create history if he can win the Golden Slipper. He would be the only horse to open as favourite and retain his position throughout betting.
- Playing God won’t run in Sydney this autumn, instead returning home for the Group 1 WA Derby (2400m).
- Despite being beaten as a very heavily backed favourite in the Black Opal Stakes, Karuta Queen has met with some support for the Golden Slipper at her current price of $12
- Military Rose, who was set to start in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) on April 9, will miss the race in order to avoid Black Caviar.
