A trip to Brisbane for a Group 1 race for three-year-olds is up for grabs for Politely Dun when he heads to Flemington.
Politely Dun was being aimed at the Group 1 South Australian Derby (2500m) at Morphettville on May 3, but a bad blood picture put a stop to those plans.
Instead, the Group 1 Queensland Derby (2400m) at Eagle Farm on May 31 has come on the agenda, provided Politely Dun performs up to expectations in the Sir Henry Bolte Handicap (2000m) at Flemington on Saturday.
Politely Dun will be lining up for his first outing in six weeks when he lines up on Saturday.
At his most recent outing, Politely Dun finished a closing second to Statuario over 2400m at Caulfield on April 5 with the winner then going on to run second in the South Australian Derby.
Trainer Danny O’Brien had Politely Dun entered in the Listed VRC St Leger (2800m) at Flemington on April 25 but decided to bypass that race to concentrate on the South Australian Derby which was eight days later.
“I saved him from the St Leger with the Derby in Adelaide in mind, but we weren’t completely happy with his blood before he got on the float to go to Adelaide,” O’Brien said.
“Clinically he’s been fine, and his blood picture came back quickly to normal parameters, so he’ll run on Saturday and provided he runs well there he will go two weeks into the Queensland Derby.”
A start in the Derby in Brisbane will be the second Classic Politely Dun will run in during his three-year-old season.
During the spring, Politely Dun finished 11th in the Victoria Derby (2500m) at Flemington last November.
Politely Dun will be ridden by Jordan Childs on Saturday and will start from barrier nine in a field of 18 plus four emergencies.
