Lloyd Williams’ will have to rely on a single runner in Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup after Point Nepean was scratched from the field on Monday morning.
Trainer Robert Hickmott advised stewards on Monday that Point Nepean had returned elevated blood results.
The withdrawal leaves Serpentine as Williams’ only runner in the $8m Melbourne Cup and has also left Irish jockey Wayne Lordan without a ride.
Point Nepean was a $51 chance in the Melbourne Cup market. Serpentine is at $81.
