Exciting Toowoomba two-year-old Plumaro is set to continue the dominance of first season sire Spirit of Boom when she comes to town to race at Doomben.

Eureka Stud’s Spirit of Boom is already a success story and had another winner when Kinky Boom won the Inglis Premier at Caulfield on Saturday.

“That was his ninth individual winner including four stakes winners, so he is going well as the two-year-old season only started in late September,” Eureka studmaster Scott McAlpine said.

“Let’s just hope it continues for the second six months of the season.”

Plumaro, a $20,000 yearling, will be well fancied when she tries to make it two wins from two starts on Saturday.

Trainer Kevin Kemp said he was keen to head to town and the filly was one of seven entries taken for Saturday’s 2YO Handicap (1200m).

“As always with two-year-olds you have to monitor them but I am keen to head to Brisbane with her,” Kemp said.

The veteran trainer rarely gets excited about horses but he has good reason to be looking forward to city racing with Plumaro.

At her first start at Toowoomba two weeks ago she was backed from $6 into $2.70 before winning by 9-1/4 lengths.

The win was all the better because she was slow to begin but produced a strong finishing burst.

Apprentice Nicholas Keal rode Plumaro in the Toowoomba win but Kemp said he would find a senior rider for her on Saturday.

“Her work had been good and she had a couple of jump-outs. But I have never had a two-year-old let down like she did,” Kemp said.
