Champion trainer Peter Moody is facing an investigation by Racing Victoria stewards after one of his runners, Brereton, tested positive for banned substances in a pre-race blood sample taken at Flemington on May 13.
The substances detected in the sample were Phenylbutazone and Oxyphenbutazone, which are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and prohibited on race day under the Australian Rules of Racing.
Phenylbutazone is commonly used for veterinary treatment in horses as an anti-inflammatory, pain reliever, and fever suppressant, but its presence on race day is strictly prohibited.
The positive swab result came to light on June 20, with confirmatory findings being communicated to Moody on July 20.
If found guilty, Moody could face a substantial four-figure fine for the offense.
Stewards are continuing their investigation.
