While the Magic Millions Two-Year-Old Classic at Hobart was a gentle romp for the hot favourite (Aristopolos), the Magic Millions 3YO/4YO Classic over 1200m did most punters no favours with a boilover coming in the form of the John Keys trained Perspiration who saluted at a starting price of $18 under Jake Noonan.
The lightly raced four-year-old was formerly trained by Ciaron Maher. The son of Too Darn Hot had six starts for Maher, winning two races, including the Listed Heritage Stakes at Rosehill back in September 2024.
He also raced in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes in which he finished unplaced behind no less a star than Storm Boy.
This was Perspiration’s fourth start since relocating to the Keys yard. He was second-up here, having given a hint of things to come with a close-up third placing over 1100m in his lead-up run to this Magic Millions assignment.
Jake Noonan allowed Perspiration to settle into his own rhythm, but that meant he raced some four lengths off the early lead, and he still had three lengths to make up the long-time leader, his stable companion, the $4.20 favourite Swift Force, on straightening.
Racing in-between horses, Noonan angled Perspiration out into clear air and the Keys trained runner immediately took up the challenge, forging forward to ultimately score a well-timed win, reeling in Swift Force to win, going away, by a half-a-length.
The $1.16 favourite Mazzini was prominent early, but only stayed on one-paced in the straight to be soundly beaten into fourth place,
