Classy mare Passive Aggressive is back in work after failing to get in-foal

Still buoyant after Magic Time’s breakthrough Group 1 win in Saturday’s Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, Grahame Begg has revealed another mare with elite ability is about to re-enter his care.

Passive Aggressive has returned to work and could be seen back at the races as early as February.

The five-year-old daughter of Fastnet Rock was retired after her unplaced run in the Group 1 Sangster Stakes at Morphettville on May 6 but has returned to work after failing to get in-foal after multiple visits to Australia’s leading stallion I Am Invincible.

“Passive Aggressive has just gone back into training at Leneva (Park),” Begg told RSN927.

“She went to I Am Invincible and failed to get in-foal, she had a couple of covers, and it was decided it was getting too late on in the season, so she’s gone back into training.”

The Sangster Stakes was just the eighth start for Passive Aggressive and the final outing in a three-run autumn campaign that started with victory over Eduardo and Giga Kick in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m).

A clash with superstar Kiwi mare Imperatriz could be on the cards in the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning (1000m) at Flemington on February 17.

“She’ll probably more than likely get ready for maybe a Lightning or the race that she won in Sydney last year, the Challenge Stakes,” Begg said.

“They’d be a couple of races that would be very suited to her, but we’ve got to get her back and make sure she’s fine and get her back ticking over and see how she comes up.”
