Race 1. (12:25) Catanach's Jewellers Mrc150 Partner (Bm74) 1100m
9 Educated (Bet Now: $3.10) is a quality mare for Ciaron Maher that resumes. She won her first three in dynamic fashion before going to the VRC Sprint Classic when struggling on the bottomless deck. Looks to have jumped out very well, she’ll take beating.
3 Naval Academy (Bet Now: $8.50) ran down the straight at Flemington two weeks ago and I thought was just going to get there but had to settle for a second to stablemate Just Like Gaby. He’s found positive form, he can go on with it.
14 Walter Spur (Bet Now: $61.00) comes to Saturday metro level after a midweek win at Sandown, giving his rivals a start and a beating in an impressive effort. If within range, he’s got the finale to be dangerous.
Race 2. (13:00) Remembering Diatribe (Bm78) 2000m
4 Simurgh (Bet Now: $3.60) could be a Cups horse. I really like this horse for Team Hayes and keen to see how he goes against these. He resumes off a let up and while 1900m is on the short side, he’s a genuine animal and will be strong at the end.
17 Leonchroi (Bet Now: $13.00) is in the mix for Price/Kent. He closed with purpose at this track/distance two weeks ago, trying hard from the back but just missed when a narrow second to Amleto. If he can settle closer, be within range, he’ll take holding out.
6 Federer (Bet Now: $6.00) should appreciate a rise in trip after resuming over the mile at Sandown where he took a little while to get going but was pretty good late in the piece. Fitter and up to 2000m, good upside, he appeals.
Race 3. (13:35) Brian Markovic Memorial F&M (Bm78) 1400m
3 Butternut Princess (Bet Now: $9.00) should appreciate getting to 1400m after resuming over 1100m her a few weeks back, working home well from off speed without threatening behind Tennessee Bound. Fitter, 1400m, will be strong late, she appeals.
1 Silent Shares (Bet Now: $6.00) was quite good behind Stage N Screen two weeks ago at Flemington, closing well from off speed when third. Been up a while but is holding her form super and strikes a winnable race.
7 Mystery’N’Drama (Bet Now: $15.00) wasn’t really there to play when resuming several weeks back here. She was never a winning threat, but didn’t mind the way she finished her race of in defeat. Fitter, she’ll be strong late…hopefully gets ridden with more intent.
Race 4. (14:10) Sportsbet More Places (Bm90) 1400m
4 Ten Commandments (Bet Now: $3.70) is several weeks between runs since racing at this track/distance when on speed, keen, tried hard but just felt the pinch late behind Coeur Volante. If he can harness his energy better, he’ll take holding out against these.
7 Sneaky Sunrise (Bet Now: $15.00) is a Team Hayes trained mare that resumes. This girl is first up, having not raced since Feb 28 when far from disgraced at Flemington. Extensive jumpout work for her return, I say she is here to play and can win.
11 Miss Maranda (Bet Now: $9.00) wasn’t really there to play when resuming several weeks back over this trip at Flemington. She was never a winning threat, but didn’t mind the way she finished her race of in defeat. Fitter, she’ll be strong late…hopefully gets ridden with more intent.
Race 5. (14:45) Vain Stakes (G3) 1100m
I think each way you can back 7 Confederation (Bet Now: $18.00) for Chris Waller. He was hard in the market in both runs in the Autumn, being good on debut before a down the track effort in the Silver Slipper. He’s been prepped in Melbourne, jumped out well and this is a nothing race re depth.
2 Closer To Free (Bet Now: $2.30) did some nice things in the Autumn, placing in the Blue Diamond at start two before a down the track effort in the Slipper. Looks to have jumped out well, he likes Caulfield, hard to beat.
8 Organised Crime (Bet Now: $26.00) didn’t beat much when a debut winner at Sale but he went about it the right way, finding plenty under pressure to fend them off. Good test here but think he can run a positive race.
Race 6. (15:25) Quezette Stakes (G3) 1100m
Really like 10 Riverina Lulu (Bet Now: $6.50). Pattern was in her corner on debut, but she let down like a good horse to win and her jumpout last week…gee they don’t go much easier in winning. She was jogging and very keen/confident she will measure up.
14 Portinari (Bet Now: $9.00) is knocking on the door for Team Hayes after her second to Angels Fury several weeks ago here. Admittedly the winner had a harder run and was impressive, but this girl kept chasing and finding the line in defeat in a good effort. Commands respect.
15 Santa Barbara (Bet Now: $17.00) closed off really well in a race that should have been dominated by those horses on the speed. That was her first career start which should see her improve a lot into this race. If she can overcome the bad barrier and have a bit of luck in running I think she is the horse with a lot of untapped upside and could be a very good horse.
Race 7. (16:00) P.b. Lawrence Stakes (G2) 1400m
1 Private Eye (Bet Now: $3.20) looks the each way gamble of the weekend. He is a star for Joe Pride that won this race last year off a similar set up, one strong trial and dodging the big boys and girls in Sydney in preference for this. He should land on speed and take beating.
7 Cosmic Crusader (Bet Now: $2.50) clearly commands respect after his Bletchingly romp three weeks ago. Did he beat much? I say no, but the manner in which he went about it was ultra impressive. Fitter and up in trip, he’ll take a power of beating.
8 Wootton Verni (Bet Now: $61.00) is a class animal that resumes for Chris Waller. He was hit and miss in the Autumn but when he is on, I think he can measure up at Group l level. He has trialled super, so keen to see how he goes.
Race 8. (16:35) Regal Roller Stakes (L) 1200m
6 Persian Spirit (Bet Now: $10.00) is humming for Symon Wilde. He resumes, having not raced since the Victoria Handicap in the Autumn when producing an end of prep run. His trial work has been super and I say he’ll run very well with an eye towards the Rupert Clarke.
1 Arkansaw Kid (Bet Now: $6.50) should be better for the first up run, which came in the Aurie’s Star where he was near the speed and tried hard but just felt the pinch late in the piece when third to Boomtown Boss. Fitter, back around a bend, he appeals.
4 Ndola (Bet Now: $11.00) ended up starting a short priced favourite in the Aurie’s Star after the scratching of War Machine. In the run, he looked the winner, but when the sprint went on, he was just fair late when fourth. Hard fit, back on a bending track, he can bounce back.
Race 9. (17:15) Toby Newton (Bm100) 1600m
Class is going to carry 3 Light Infantry Man (Bet Now: $3.50) a long, long way. Multiple Group l winner that resumes, having not raced since the Autumn when far from disgraced in the QEll at Randwick. Trialled well, gets in well after the claim…only runs well I say.
7 Machine Gun Gracie (Bet Now: $6.00) is on a Cups path so keen to see how she goes. Her last run was in the Sydney Cup when kept safe in betting but failed to fire when down the track. Jumped out super and B Shinn booked signals clear intent.
9 Rumbled Again (Bet Now: $34.00) is a hit and miss mare, but she is capable when right. She ran fourth to First Chorus three weeks back, getting off speed was good late. If she brings her best, she is capable of a decent performance.
