The abandonment of today’s Yarra Valley meeting due to issues with the track has left racing participants and punters frustrated. The announcement was made by Racing Victoria (RV) after stewards identified sections of the track near the 400m, 600m, and 800m marks that were significantly heavier than the rest of the track.
The stewards and jockeys present on course conducted a thorough inspection and unanimously decided to abandon the meeting in the interests of horse and rider safety. While the decision was necessary, it has undoubtedly left many racing participants and punters feeling frustrated.
RV and the Yarra Valley Racing Club have pledged to conduct a thorough investigation to determine what caused the issues with the track. In the meantime, connections of all horses due to compete in the eight races will receive a compensation fee, and nominations for meetings on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday have been extended until 4 pm today to assist those affected by the cancellation.
