Expectations are Ole Dancer will appreciate the rise in journey for the Thousand Guineas at Caulfield

Ole Dancer will bid to replicate what her sire did five years ago by winning a Group 1 during the Caulfield Cup Carnival.

Ole Kirk took the Caulfield Guineas in 2020 while his daughter Ole Dancer lines up in the filly’s version on Saturday, the Thousand Guineas (1600m).

Ole Dancer is raced in similar interests to Ole Kirk and carries similar colours.

Whereas Ole Kirk was prepared by Hawkes Racing, Ole Dancer is in the care of Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman.

Lining up for her fifth start, Ole Dancer is a two-time winner and is coming off a last start second in the Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) at Sandown on September 27 when just touched out in a blanket finish.

Coleman said Ole Dancer had trained on well since that narrow defeat and expects the rise to 1600m to be ideal.

“She’s prepped up really nicely for it,” Coleman said.

“She’s had some good lead-up runs this time in and everything has been really positive this week leading into it, so we’re really excited.

“It was a shame she got beaten last time, but if you look at the positives it was the ideal prep run for getting out to the mile on Saturday.

“I couldn’t be happier with how she’s going to present there on Saturday. It’s obviously a step up in class and it looks a nice edition of the race.”

Coleman said the Michael Freedman-trained filly Apocalyptic adds a new dimension to Saturday’s contest.

Apocalyptic is unbeaten in three runs this campaign and is a last start winner of the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) at Randwick.

“There is the Sydney filly (Apocalyptic) coming down who is a very smart filly, but we couldn’t be happier with how our girl is going,” Coleman said.

“She is drawn well to be a bit closer and hopefully we can get a bit of luck and she’s pretty adaptable if the rain does come.

“She’s OK on soft or firm. We don’t want it to be a road out there, but not too wet either.”
