Moonee Valley is gearing up for a bustling schedule, commencing with its return on Saturday.
To ensure optimal track conditions for upcoming race meetings, track manager Martin Synan has implemented a new policy.
With three meetings in a month and an additional August race, Synan plans to restrict the number of horses allowed to gallop in the lead-up to each event.
“Last year we had 72 horses gallop in the lead-up to our return meeting, but that will be capped at 40 on Tuesday morning.” Synan told Racing.com.
“We’re going to be stricter about the horses that gallop and they need to be entered. They can’t just come across from Flemington for a day out.”
The drier winter has significantly aided Moonee Valley’s recovery since its last race on March 29, with the track in better condition compared to last year.
“The track has gone from Soft 7, to Soft 6, to Soft 5 this week and if the weather continues it could be a Good 4, but if there’s a bit of rain a Soft 5,” he said.
“We’ve given the track a good rest. I’m happy with the way it’s come through with what we’ve done.”
With the rail set at five meters for Saturday’s meeting, the track is poised to deliver an exhilarating racing experience.
