The Moonee Valley Racing Club (MVRC) is gearing up to finalise the venue for the 2026 Cox Plate by mid-year, as the iconic racecourse undergoes extensive track reconstruction.
Club CEO Michael Browell announced plans for an expression of interest process to determine the best-suited location, with Melbourne’s other two racing clubs likely in contention.
Browell emphasised the importance of retaining the Cox Plate’s coveted date in the spring racing calendar, considering potential venues such as Caulfield or Flemington.
The current Valley track will close after the 2025 Cox Plate, with the race expected to return to a revamped facility in 2027.
The MVRC aims to release race dates for the 2026 carnival by May or June to facilitate a smooth transition.
