Bjorn Baker’s success rolled on at Canterbury on Monday with a filly that he has higher aims for after notching her second win in four starts.
A trip to Scone is one of two options for Ellipsis ($4.80) with the other to head further north wintertime filles races in Brisbane after taking out the Exceedance @ Vinery Stud Handicap (1100m) first-up.
Racing in the Darby Racing silks, the three-year-old daughter of Written Tycoon is likely to take on the Listed Denise’s Joy Stakes (1100m) during the Scone Winter Carnival in three weeks’ time before considerations in Queensland.
Baker’s opinion of her as a nice filly was shared by jockey Jason Collett.
“That was impressive and she did it at both ends then,” Collett said.
“She didn’t handle herself that well at the start and got caught wide early and did the work in the middle, too.
“She has come back better and there are good signs for her.”
Also on the card, Maison Louis ($3.20 equal favourite) surprised co-trainer Tom Charlton with the strength of his win in the TAB Handicap (1900m) and a trip to Brisbane could beckon also for the gelding.
The Group 2 Rough Habit Plate (2000) on May 17 may be on the radar if the three-year-old continues to impress the stable.
“He got into a beautiful rhythm but he is a horse still learning what it is all about but seeing that today was pleasing,” Charlton said.
“Before the race I was inclined to say that 2000-metres was his maximum but after seeing that today and how he relaxed, maybe not.
“We’ll consider (racing more) forward if we were to press on to Queensland but it is his first preparation so that is all to be considered.”
The son of Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) winner Super Seth’s record now stands at three wins and one placing in five starts.
