Leviathan owner Lloyd Williams will have a quarter of the Melbourne Cup field with his six horses headed by defending champion Almandin.

The others he either owns or has an interest in are Johannes Vermeer, Bondi Beach, US Army Ranger, Gallante and Rekindling.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Cismontane sealed the final position in the 24-horse field with his victory in Saturday’s Lexus Stakes.

The Mike Moroney-trained Vengeur Masque finished second in the Lexus and was just outside the field for the second year running.

Darren Weir, who won the Cup with Prince Of Penzance in 2015, has Big Duke, Humidor and Amelie’s Star while Irish trainer Willie Mullins also has three runners including 2015 runner-up Max Dynamite who is joined by Wicklow Brave and Thomas Hobson.
