One of the feature races at Caulfield this Saturday is the Vain Stakes (1100m), where the market says it is an open race.
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for 2026 Vain Stakes.
2026 Vain Stakes Runner Preview:
1. Tornado Valley: Had a busy juvenile season and his trial work in Sydney has been quite good…he’ll likely stalk Hard Kick and be strong late.
2. Closer To Free: Closer To Free did some nice things in the Autumn, placing in the Blue Diamond at start two before a down the track effort in the Slipper. Looks to have jumped out well, he likes Caulfield, hard to beat.
3. Hard Kick: $4 all in was ridiculous. He ran his race before the barriers opened first up, and the jumpout where he just jumped and ran…the warning signs are there that he’s cast.
4. Big Wigs: I can’t work out why he is as short as he is…The Showdown was one of the worst races I saw and I think he’ll be much better deeper into the prep.
5. Outspan: Intent is there with Freedman bringing him down from Sydney and has the 1000m trial under the belt, so the grounding is there.
6. Almontego: Let down nicely to win at Flemington last start but the depth wasn’t deep. Not fancied for me here.
7. Confederation: I think each way you can back Confederation for Chris Waller. He was hard in the market in both runs in the Autumn, being good on debut before a down the track effort in the Silver Slipper. He’s been prepped in Melbourne, jumped out well and this is a nothing race re depth.
8. Organised Crime: Organised Crime didn’t beat much when a debut winner at Sale but he went about it the right way, finding plenty under pressure to fend them off. Good test here but think he can run a positive race.
9. Myhro’s Ruler: He beat nothing at Echuca but he was arrogant and ran decent enough time. Up and going, can press forward, he’s dangerous.

2026 Vain Stakes Speed Map
If the recent jumpout is any guide, Hard Kick is going to lead and run along. Tornado Valley likely stalks while Closer To Free will come across. The tempo should be genuine.
