Sydney-based Michael Freedman has dispatched Satin Summer to Melbourne to contest the upcoming three-year-old fillies sprint races.
Satin Summer kicks off Freedman’s plan at Caulfield on Saturday in the Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m).
Freedman said the sprinting fillies are better catered for in Melbourne, with the exception of the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on Saturday week and the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m), also at Randwick, two weeks later.
“There’s not a lot here (in Sydney),” Freedman said.
“You’ve got the Silver Shadow and the Furious, and after that there is nothing.
“You go down there (to Melbourne) and basically every second week there is a fillies sprint race.”
Satin Summer has raced on only three occasions, registering a debut win at Randwick in January before jumping straight to Stakes company, finishing fifth in the Listed Lonhro Plate at Randwick on January 7.
The filly was then not sighted on the racetrack again until finishing third at Rosehill over 1100m on July 4.
Satin Summer has since had a trial at Warwick on August 4 after Freedman elected to scratch the filly on a couple of occasions.
“She’s had one run back and we’ve scratched off a couple of wide gates the last two times she was in,” Freedman said.
“She trialled at Warwick Farm with the blinkers on and went great and she’ll wear them in the Quezette, plus we’ve got Jamie Melham to ride her.”
Satin Summer has drawn barrier one on Saturday.
Asked if Satin Summer would remain in Melbourne post Saturday’s outing, Freedman replied, “Possibly, if that’s the way it pans out.”
