This years Melbourne Cup Carnival at Flemington will be run without owners after the State Government did not grant the club permission to do so.
The Victorian Racing Club had hoped to have owners on course for the four day Melbourne Cup Carnival at Flemington although that will not be the case with the State Government advising the club owners would not be allowed despite the easing of restrictions in Melbourne.
“I have today advised the Victoria Racing Club that connections of horses competing at the Melbourne Cup Carnival will not be permitted to attend the course,” Racing Minister Marin Pakula said.
“The Government has determined that next week is not a suitable time for gatherings of that nature.
“It is the right decision and has been made in the interests of all Victorians.”
