Matthew Brown is hoping Chase On The Case can improve his recent city run of success at Sandown

Having landed his biggest win when Prix De Turn scored at the recent night meeting at The Valley, young Cranbourne trainer Matthew Brown is looking for back-to-back city wins at Sandown.

Brown has Chase On The Case down to run in the 50 Year Life Member – Alan Lloyd (1500m) at Sandown on Wednesday, his first metropolitan runner since Prix De Turn scored at The Valley.

Prix De Turn won the Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes (2040m) last Friday night to provide Brown with his most important victory since saddling his first runner just on seven years ago.

Brown’s winners have been spread far and wide through Victoria, southern NSW and Tasmania and he is hoping Chase On The Case can add to his metropolitan tally of 19 on Wednesday.

Chase On The Case has not started since finishing third at Caulfield in January after succumbing to a virus which required the gelding to have a freshen-up.

“He had a little quiet trial the other week in what was a strong heat,” Brown told RSN.

“He’s pretty honest. He’s no world beater, but he tries hard, and he should be thereabouts.”

While Chase On The Case commences his latest preparation, Brown said it was likely Prix De Turn would head for a break to prepare for the spring.

Prix De Turn has raced only seven times, for two wins, but has competed in two of Victoria’s premier three-year-old races at 1600m.

At his second career start, Prix De Turn ran seventh to Anamoe in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas last October while his start prior to his Alister Clark success saw Prix De Turn finish 12th in the Group 1 Australian Guineas at Flemington.

“I think we’ll probably hold off until the spring now,” Brown said.

“I think he goes in softish ground, but I wouldn’t want it wet, wet.

“He’s done his job, so we’ll put him away and he can come back for another crack in the spring.”
