Ciaron Maher is set to send Jimmysstar into the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield this Saturday, fresh off an impressive first-up victory at the same track in September.
The win, where Jimmysstar surged from the back to take out a BM100, has Maher confident the Oakleigh Plate is the perfect starting point for the horse.
“It’s a good kick-off for him. He’s a horse whose rating is up now (103) and it’s a handicap. He’s won there over the trip,” said Maher.
Maher also has a fresh approach with stablemate Estriella, who has been trained to race off the speed after two strong trials at Cranbourne.
“She trialled very good the other day. It depends on how the race shapes as to what we will do but with a bit of cover, she certainly trialled well doing that,” Maher commented.
Maher will also likely enter three juveniles in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes, with Cherish Me ($10) leading the charge with online betting sites.
