Somebody’s bad luck can sometimes be somebody else’s good fortune.
The Mishani Enterprises team had targeted the $2 million Magic Millions Two-Year-Old Classic from a long way out and their strategy was good enough to secure Mishani Renegade a place in the big race lineup.
The Les Ross trained runner accumulated prize-money quickly and early to be virtually the first runner assured of a place in the in the final line-up for the big race … but this week that plan fell apart with the scratching of the son of Top Echelon from the race by order of the Queensland stewards after ‘a veterinary check confirmed a bone spur in the fore knee.’
That decision activated the green light for the race’s first emergency acceptor, Risky Investment, to now be included as an official runner in the race.
“We’ve only been in partnership for about five months and we’ve got a runner in the Magic Millions, so it is pretty exciting,” said Ryan Tyrell, who co-trains Risky Investment with Tom Button.
“He’s had a bit of an upside-down kind of preparation. Things have gone wrong … but, how many thousand horses go through the Magic Millions and we are in the final sixteen for the Two-Year-Old Classic.
“To us, getting a place in the field is like winning the lottery.
“He drew barrier six, but I think he’ll probably come into barrier four on race-day.
“Ben Thompson (who was originally booked to ride Mishani Renegade) will ride him.
“We played a bit of roulette waiting for a jockey, but the wheel landed our way.
“It’s just great for Tommy and I. The partnership is going great. We are working very well together.
“We’ve been active at the sales … buying a couple of nice horses so far … and then, yeah, to get a run in the Magic millions.
“It really is exciting.’
