Jim Cassidy was praised for his winning ride in the Group Three Liverpool City Cup at Warwick Farm on Saturday but had his day soured when stewards took issue with his ride on Maluckyday in the day’s feature race.
Cassidy was rubbed out for four meetings for an incident in the straight in the Group One Chipping Norton Stakes, where he partnered the Melbourne Cup runner-up to a sparkling first-up fourth in the 1600m weight-for-age feature.
As it stands, Cassidy’s suspension begins after next Saturday’s Randwick Guineas meeting and he will be back in time to ride Maluckyday in the Group One Ranvet Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill on March 19.
Cassidy was considering an application to start his suspension earlier.
His ban does rule him out of Sunday week’s Black Opal Stakes day at Canberra.
The champion jockey was charged with shifting in on Maluckyday at the 150m mark when insufficiently clear of Illustrious Blue.
Cassidy told stewards he had shifted in but didn’t believe his actions warranted him having to answer a charge.
