Three-year-old filly Jenni Intiba made a statement on debut, storming home from last to win the seventh heat of the Future Stars Series at Pakenham on Thursday night. Trained by Charlotte Littlefield and ridden by Craig Newitt, the $18 outsider overcame a slow start in the 1400m event to finish strongly, securing a place in the $300,000 Future Stars Final on February 27.
“We always knew she had more ability than what her jumpouts had shown,” Littlefield said. “I actually galloped her myself the other day … and there was so much in hand, so much underneath me.”
A $150,000 Inglis Premier purchase, Jenni Intiba is out of a Blue Diamond-winning family, with her granddam Danelagh a past champion of the race. The victory also came with an additional $100,000 bonus from the Inglis Xtra Bonus Series, making it a lucrative result for her connections.
Littlefield credited owner Tony Ottobre for his faith in her stable. “He’s got a very good eye, Tony – I’m going to be following him around a bit more at the sales I think moving forwards,” she said.
