Champion jockey Hugh Bowman will miss the Tancred Stakes meeting at Rosehill and must receive a medical clearance before riding Winx in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
Bowman was stood down by the course doctor at Warwick Farm two races into Wednesday’s card and has been diagnosed with a viral infection.
He was upbeat when he left Warwick Farm but after tests on Thursday he informed Racing NSW that he had a medical certificate which ruled him out of riding until April 11.
He will require a medical certificate to resume riding on that date.
Should Bowman be unable to return for the final day of The Championships at Randwick three days later, super mare Winx will need another jockey for the Group One Queen Elizabeth Stakes, her final race of this preparation.
Bowman only returned to racing last Saturday at Rosehill, a fortnight after suffering concussion when he fell from Performer during the Todman Stakes at Randwick on March 10.
He made a successful comeback with a Group One double aboard Winx and D’Argento.
Bowman had a book of eight rides on Saturday and was chasing a fourth Group One Tancred Stakes on the Chris Waller-trained Who Shot Thebarman.
Waller will also need a new jockey for Unforgotten, the favourite for the Group One Vinery Stud Stakes.
Corey Brown will ride D’Argento in Saturday week’s Group One $3 million Doncaster Mile at Randwick.
