Blueblood filly Beside The Ocean, a Zoustar half-sister to Golden Slipper winner and stallion Farnan, broke through for a valuable maiden city success at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.
The lightly raced three-year-old handled the heavy 10 conditions with ease, scoring a dominant win over 1300m at just her second career appearance. She had finished runner-up on debut at Kensington on July 16.
Beside The Ocean powered clear to defeat Koibito by 3.85 lengths, with a further 5.16 lengths back to Defendant in third place.
By champion sire Zoustar, the filly was a $250,000 buy from the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale in 2024 for Cunningham Thoroughbreds, who campaign her under the Ridgmont Farm banner alongside bloodstock agent Jim Clarke.
Out of Group 3 winner Tallow, she is the fifth foal from the mare to race and win, and a half-sister to Sandbar, now standing at Kooringal Stud.
The victory was also part of a treble for trainer Chris Waller, who saddled Godolphin’s Burma Star to win the opener and Kapakiri to claim the Benchmark 72 (1600m) later in the program.
