Trainer Chris Waller has announced that Shinzo will be taking a break from racing after his win in the Golden Slipper last Saturday. The decision to spell the young colt was made due to his busy racing schedule and young age.
Shinzo, a Snitzel colt, won the $5m Golden Slipper by 1.25 lengths under the guidance of British jockey Ryan Moore. Before his Golden Slipper victory, he had previously placed in the G3 Canonbury Stakes and G2 Skyline Stakes, and secured another victory in the G3 Pago Pago Stakes.
“Following an amazing weekend with Shinzo headlining a great day of racing at Rosehill, we have decided to spell him,” Waller said in a statement.
“It certainly was enticing to run Shinzo in the Sires’ but that would have been his fifth run as a two-year-old in his first racing preparation as well as two runs in eight days during a very hot period. This was on the back of a personal best run. He is a horse with plenty of upside, he is improving with each run and we expect the same improvement as a three-year-old but the owners and I are in agreeance that it’s in the horse’s best interest to allow him to continue to grow, develop and mature.”
While racing fans will undoubtedly miss Shinzo on the track, the decision to spell him is a wise one, allowing the young colt to grow and mature for even greater success in the future. With his impressive record so far, there is no doubt that Shinzo has a bright future ahead of him, and fans will eagerly await his return to competition.
