Best Of Bordeaux is back in work and being readied for an early spring resumption

The first two runs of Best Of Bordeaux’s spring campaign have been locked in but beyond that, trainer Kacy Fogden is keeping an open mind.

The Golden Slipper runner-up proved one of the best of his generation as a two-year-old, winning the Canonbury Stakes and Silver Slipper before beating all but Fireburn in the juvenile feature.

He is back in work with Fogden, who has earmarked the Listed The Rosebud (1100m) on August 13 for his return, ahead of the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) two weeks later.

How Best Of Bordeaux performs in those two runs will determine whether he heads towards the Golden Rose (1400m), Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) or even The Everest (1200m).

“We get to that fork in the road where you could go to the Coolmore, you could go Golden Rose. We will let the horse tell us,” Fogden said.

“We will have a look at that time and when we get to that fork in the road, that’s when we have got to make some big decisions.”

Best Of Bordeaux is on track to have his first jump-out towards the end of the month and while he is a compact horse, Fogden says he has furnished nicely during his spell.

She opted to put him in the paddock after the Golden Slipper, rather than go deeper into the autumn and believes she pulled the right rein.

“I’m glad we put him away and I’m glad we waited,” she said.

“He’s back in work now. He is a few weeks off a jump-out, but he has done extremely well since his spell.”

As for an Everest call-up, Fogden won’t rule anything out but is equally reluctant to think too far ahead.

“We will see what happens. I don’t want to get ahead of myself,” she said.

The emerging trainer was in the winner’s stall at Randwick on Saturday with two-year-old Midnight In Tokyo, who she hopes to aim towards next year’s Sydney autumn carnival.
