Winning Jockey Regan Bayliss on Sneaky Five

Read what each of the jockeys had to say about the runs of their mounts in the 2020 Golden Gift at Rosehill on Saturday.

Sneaky Five guaranteed her spot in the Golden Slipper by taking out the $1m Golden Gift and banking $580,000 in prizemoney. Cerda and Mura Mura filled the placings.

Regan Bayliss (Sneaky Five): “She was on her right leg from the get go so she was very professional. I sat in behind Mura Mura and she switched off lovely for me. She showed good tenacity, she had to bump Nash’s horse out of the way and get balanced again. She was good right through the line and she pricked her ears when she got to the front as well so there is a bit of upside to her.”

Nash Rawiller (Ghostwriter): “He is a lovely colt. He put himself outside the lead. Was the first horse off the bridle. Wasn’t that comfortable in the ground into the straight. He stayed on well. I think he’s a promising horse. Maybe more so later on over 1400m when he gets into his comfort zone and enjoys it.”

Jason Collett (Captivant): “Didn’t feel he was that comfortable in the ground. Didn’t travel as well as last start. Kept finding the line but wasn’t as effective.”

Rachel King (Athelric): “Just didn’t enjoy that track today.”

Jay Ford (Hodgson): “Really honest effort. He’s learning his race craft but happy with the way he went.”

Brenton Avdulla (Head Of State): “He went terrific. He’s a really nice horse in the making.”

Tommy Berry (Hunnam): “He just really struggled in the ground which we didn’t think he would but he did.”

Tim Clark (Cerda): “She ran great. She is an honest filly. Gave her all. If she can strengthen up a little bit over her break there is no reason the colours can’t go back to back.”

Sam Clipperton (Mura Mura): “Great run. I just needed a bunny to chase when I was in front. She was just stargazing a bit when too brilliant out of the gates.”
