Fresh off his victory in the Cranbourne Cup, rising star Globe is set to take on the $500,000 Ballarat Cup (2000m) this Saturday, aiming to secure back-to-back wins in prestigious country cups.
Co-trainer Mick Price is optimistic about Globe stepping up to 2000 metres for the first time, believing the distance will be a key factor in the gelding’s future success as he builds towards a strong 2025 campaign.
“I think 2000m won’t be an issue for him,” Price said. “It’s a great way for him to round out his spring campaign. He’s done a terrific job this preparation, and we’ll reset for the autumn, which could include races in Sydney and Melbourne.”
Despite his confidence, Price acknowledged the quick jump from 1600m to 2000m in just two weeks could present a challenge.
“He’s shown he can handle the distance, having two wins from two starts over 1800m,” Price added. “If he gets caught late, that’s okay—it’s all part of his development. I’m confident he’ll handle the step up.”
The Ballarat Cup will provide an ideal test for Globe as he builds on his burgeoning record and sets his sights on bigger targets in the autumn racing season. With his proven ability and potential for further improvement, Globe is firmly establishing himself as one to watch.
