Glen Boss will get another chance to add to his tally in a jockeys' series in Saudi Arabia

Glen Boss may not have had the fairytale finish to his riding career in Melbourne, but the three-time Melbourne Cup winner will get another chance in the New Year.

Boss has accepted an invitation to ride in an International Jockeys’ Challenge at the rich Saudi Cup meeting at King Abdulaziz Racetrack in Riyadh on February 25.

He will compete against some of the world’s best, saying the opportunity was too good to ignore.

“I got an invitation last night and I think it’s too good to pass up,” Boss told RSN.

“The Saudi Cup is a big $20 million US meeting across the Friday and the Saturday, and I’ve been invited over there to ride in the invitation meeting.

“There are seven women and seven men from all around, (where) you ride against Mike Smith and Frankie Dettori.”

Boss said he would keep himself in trim and would look to ride trackwork and trials early in the New Year to keep his eye in.

“It’s on the 25th of February, so I’ve got to keep myself ticking over by riding a bit of work and trials until then,” Boss said.

“I’m representing Australia, that’s what it’s all about and you don’t get that opportunity to do that in our sport all that often, so I’m really looking forward to it.”

Boss is best remembered for his partnership with triple Melbourne Cup winner Makybe Diva.

He who rode 90 Group 1 winners in a career spanning 37 years and more than 2400 winners and had his last race ride at Caulfield on Saturday before receiving the invite, finishing fourth aboard Melbourne Cup placegetter Spanish Mission who was having his first start for the Peter Moody stable.
