Gimmie Par has broken through for her maiden victory against four opponents at Caulfield.
The younger half-sister of multiple Group 1 winner Ole Kirk has broken her maiden status with a tough win in the Wilde Racing Handicap at Caulfield.
Gimmie Par, by Not A Single Doubt, was having her second career start on Saturday in the 1100m two-year-old fillies event.
Sent off the $1.55 favourite under Luke Nolen, Gimmie Par had to do it the tough way, racing three-wide in the five-horse field, before holding off debutant Spinning ($10) by a short-half-head with Vandoula Lass ($8.50) 2-¼ lengths off in third place.
Peter Moody, who trained Gimmie Par’s close relation Black Caviar to an unbeaten 25 start career, said the two-year-old would gain a lot from Saturday’s experience.
“She probably got a little bit lost in front there at the top of the straight and didn’t really know how to knuckle down,” Moody said.
“We saw that at Flemington and it took her until the last 50 metres to flatten out.
“She’ll take good benefit away from it.”
Moody said Gimmie Par would now head to Queensland, but whether the filly raced up there would be worked out in coming weeks.
“We’ll let her take us along,” Moody said.
“She’ll go to Queensland, whether it’s for a race or a holiday, she’ll determine that in the next few weeks.
“She’s only a whippet of a thing, a little girl, so I’m not sure how far her physique will take her.
“Ability, there’s plenty of it, is she going to be big and strong enough, that probably is going to be a question mark.”
Nolen said when the runner-up loomed up to Gimmie Par, his filly responded.
“She’s been so natural at home and hasn’t had to do a lot under pressure so that was good that she responded,” Nolen said.
