Racing Victoria’s search for a new chairman is gathering pace, and all eyes are on former AFL head, Gillon McLachlan.
As the state government prepares to open board vacancy applications this week, the departure of former chairman Brian Kruger in June has intensified the search.
McLachlan, having recently exited his AFL role, has not denied his interest in the Racing Victoria position.
His tenure at AFL, marked by strong commercial performance, makes him a favourite, especially at a time when Racing Victoria grapples with falling revenues.
Moreover, his potential to bridge the strained ties with Racing NSW adds to his appeal.
While the selection procedure, which involves an open application and advisory panel interviews, is set to take over two weeks, many insiders hint that if McLachlan throws his hat in the ring, he could be the frontrunner.
