Trainer Clayton Douglas is looking to secure some early ‘Black Type’ for Blue Hotel by taking the filly to Adelaide for her first start.
Blue Hotel is engaged in the Listed Dequetteville Stakes (1000m) on the Morphettville Parks track on Saturday to kick start her career.
Douglas also had the options of a maiden two-year-old race over 1000m at Cranbourne on Friday night or the Listed Redoute’s Choice Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday for Blue Hotel to start her career.
Blue Hotel is a daughter of I Am Invincible from Volcada and is raced by Jonathan Munz who also raced the dam.
Volcada won the 2007 Dequetteville Stakes at her third race start prepared by Douglas’ uncle, Rod, now Munz’s racing manager.
Blue Hotel has impressed in winning two jump-outs, firstly at Balnarring over Katsumi Orochi, an addition to the Anthony and Sam Freedman stable after placing on debut in a Blue Diamond Prelude at Caulfield in February, then at Woolamai on March 26.
“She’s trialled up really nicely and is a nice filly,” Douglas said.
“She’s a homebred for Jonathan Munz and the team. She’s out of a nice mare that Jonathan had himself and I’m looking forward to seeing how she goes.
“She’s done everything right and she trialled nicely against the older horse’s last time.
“Like a lot of things, race experience is key with a lot of two-year-olds, but she’s got the smarts to overcome things.
“She’s done everything right. She’s put her hand up and I’m sure she’ll run well.”
Luke Currie rode the filly in both jump-outs but was unable to make the trip to Adelaide with a book of nine rides on the 10-race card at Caulfield.
Todd Pannell has been booked for the ride.
Blue Hotel has been a firmer since betting opened from $4.60 into $3.90 to score on debut.
