Connections and fans were left scratching their heads last night after Yucatan put in a run well below expectations but a veterinary report could shed some light on the performance.
Yucatan was sent out as the third favourite in the JRA Cup at The Valley but failed to fire finishing at the back of the field which left fans thinking how he won last years Herbert Power Stakes so impressively and how he started favourite in the Melbourne Cup.
A post race veterinary check however uncovered the horse had pulled up lame in his left front leg and will require a vet clearance prior to racing again.
Yucatan remains a $26 chance in 2019 Melbourne Cup odds.
