On Saturday at Caulfield, a massive and rather impressive milestone will be reached by everybody’s horse they love to hate: SO SI BON.
Or will it?
So Si Bon, who right from when he was a 2YO promised sooo much as a racehorse, faces his 11 rivals in the Gr 1 CF Orr Stakes over 1400m worth $500,000.
And if he finishes in the top 8, he reaches the milestone. If he don’t, he wont.
Right now as surprising as this next comment sounds, So Si Bon (So You Think-Black Minx) will become a millionaire earner if he finishes in the top 8.
He sits, after just 3 wins from 43 starts, precariously placed on $999,400 in earnings.
Running 8th earns him $10,000.
He probably doesn’t win. Stats and history support that theory.
For example, he has had 11 tries at 1400m and has never won. A Gr 1 isn’t the time to break the drought.
The Caulfield track may not be advantageous either. He’s raced here 15 times and won just once! Combine the pair, he’s had 7 goes at 1400m at this track and placed just 3 times. No wins. Mind you, one of those was at Gr 1 level.
And here in lies the frustration that is So Si Bon. He can mix it with the best. He just never seems to win.
Which of course he doesn’t have to do to pass the milestone on Saturday.
In the field are Scales Of Justice, Begood Toya Mother, Fierce Impact, Fifty Stars and Night’s Watch. All of them have beaten him home at some time or another.
For the record, he’s raced 43 times for 3 wins and 12 placings.
He is a Listed winner and has been 3 x Gr 1 placed.
But, I hope he reaches the milestone. I love seeing owners, especially long-suffering ones like those who own So Si Bon, collect the cash.
