Caulfield’s new inner track, originally slated for racing on April 17, might see an earlier start based on forthcoming trials. Melbourne Racing Club (MRC) officials, encouraged by horses’ recent gallops on the track, are open to the possibility of advancing the launch date.
Jake Norton, MRC’s executive director of racing, stated, “We have the first meeting scheduled for April 17, but… if it was considered fit to race earlier than the 17th of April, we could consider an internal transfer.”
Feedback from jockeys who rode Ciaron Maher-trained horses on the track has been positive. Upcoming jumpouts on January 25 and official trials on January 29 will play a crucial role in assessing the track’s readiness for racing.
Approval for a new track entails horse gallops, followed by jumpouts and official trials, ensuring the green light from stewards and riders.
