While Deep Field’s final Australian yearlings have already gone through the sale ring this year, his legacy remains strong overseas, with the stallion making history in Hong Kong by becoming the first sire to surpass HK$100 million in progeny earnings in a single season.
Deep Field was retired from stud duties in 2022 due to fertility challenges, leaving behind a final crop of only seven registered foals, who will officially turn two on August 1.
Of those, four were offered at Australian sales in recent months, including a standout filly out of Macroura who brought $550,000 at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.
A son of Northern Meteor, Deep Field burst onto the scene with remarkable early success. He still holds the Australian record for the most seasonal wins by a second-season sire with 86 victories in 2019/20, eclipsing the previous benchmark of 80 set by his own sire.
He also remains the only non-shuttle stallion to produce 100 winners from just two crops to race, solidifying his place as one of the most prolific sires of his generation.
