Having had the benefit of a start up the straight at Flemington, David Brideoake is expecting improvement from Red Can Man at Caulfield.

David BrideoakeĀ is looking at racing around a corner to bring out the best of Red Can ManĀ in a stakes race at Caulfield.

Red Can Man will be having his second start for the Mornington-based horseman in the Group 3 Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m) on Saturday.

The former Perth galloper made his Victorian debut in a straight 1100m race at Flemington on June 19, finishing seventh, beaten 1-¾ lengths by The Astrologist who came out last Saturday to score again at Flemington.

“It can be a bit daunting racing up the straight for the first time and we thought he raced a bit fresh,”Ā BrideoakeĀ said.

“Overall,Ā we thought his first run was OK as he wasn’t beaten that far and we thought he’d probably be better off around a corner, so we’ll line up again and take out medicine.

“I’m hopeful of him showing a bit of improvement as we are still getting to know the horse. It’s all part of the process.”

Red Can Man won seven of his 18 starts in Perth for Steve Wolfe before making his way toĀ Brideoake’sĀ Victorian stable.

The son of former Singapore galloper Gingerbread Man won aĀ TraralgonĀ barrier trial before his first-up effort at Flemington.

Before travelling east, Red Can Man ran fourth in the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) at Ascot before backing-up a week later to finish eighth in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) last November.

“I’ve got a good feel about the horse that he’ll make the grade here and fingers crossed we’ll see a bit from him on Saturday,”Ā BrideoakeĀ said.

BrideoakeĀ said depending on what Red Can Man does on Saturday, the sprinter was likely to return to Caulfield on July 24 for the Group 3Ā BletchinglyĀ Stakes (1200m).
