Icebath has gained a start in Saturday's Doncaster Mile field

Controversial Doncaster Mile omission Icebath has gained a start in Saturday’s field after the Kris Lees trained Gem Song was scratched on Thursday.

The decision to make Icebath an emergency in the $3m feature event at Randwick this week was controversial with plenty of fans questioning the decision to include Olmedo in the race over the more in form mare.

Icebath has been consistent this preparation without winning having placed in the Triscay Stakes and Guy Walter Stakes before a fifth in the G1 Coolmore Classic and a fourth in Saturday’s Emancipation Stakes.

Bookmaker Sportsbet has Icebath as a $18 chance in current Doncaster Mile odds after opening at $34 and has been relatively well backed with a rain affected track forecast for the day.
