The potential match race every racing fan in Australia has been hoping for has been confirmed with Godolphin announcing this morning that Hartnell will head to the 2016 Cox Plate to take on champion mare Winx barring any injuries or complications.
Hartnell who has demolished his competition at his past three runs including a last start emphatic win in the Turnbull Stakes has been branded the horse who can beat champion mare ‘Winx’ this Spring and this announcement means he will be given his opportunity to do so.
Winx who is yet to beaten in her past eleven starts and has beaten Hartnell at their three meetings to date including last years Cox Plate is the current $2.00 favourite for this years edition of the race.
Winx will run in Saturday’s Caulfield Stakes before heading to the Cox Plate whilst Hartnell will have his next run in the WFA Championship of Australasia (Cox Plate).
