Jockey Chad Schofield is expected to be back in action on Australian soil, for the first time since returning from Hong Kong, at the Gosford meeting on Thursday.
Schofield spent the better part of seven seasons in Hong Kong but, with a baby due in February, he thought it was time to return to Australia and, on request, he was duly released from his commitments by the Hong Kong Jockey Club.
Best remembered, at this stage, for his dramatic win aboard the maiden Shamus Award in the 2013 Cox Plate while still riding as an apprentice, Schofield will be looking to re-establish his career in Sydney where, according to his manager, trainers has responded positively to the rider’s return.
Schofield’s manager Mark Van Triet told Racing.com … “I think he’s resuming at a good time of the year where a lot of the main riders are having a break, so there is a little bit of a shortage in Sydney at the moment.
“He’s come back to Australia. He is at the peak of his powers. He’s ready to go.
“He’ll have about five, six rides on Sunday, Boxing Day and really it’s just a case of building each meeting,” concluded Van Triet.
