Media Release – Incentivise Retirement
It’s with great sadness that we announce the immediate retirement of our champion racehorse, Incentivise.
Like a blazing comet ripping through the night sky, Incentivise left us all in awe of his sheer brilliance and wanting to see him again and again and again, but unfortunately it wasn’t to be. The horse had been progressing terrifically well towards a much-anticipated return to racing but suffered another set-back, that whilst not career ending in its own right, was enough for us to call it a day. Importantly, Incentivise is not in pain and roaming freely in a paddock at Peter Moody’s farm
He retires from racing with the outstanding record of 13 starts for 9 wins and a very famous second. There are few historical precedents for what the horse achieved, going from a maiden to a WFA Group 1 winner within the space of 5 months. His 2021 spring campaign will go down in history as one of the most dominant we have seen, resuming with a victory in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes, followed by the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes and then of course his magnificent 3.5 length romp in the Caulfield Cup. His quest for the Caulfield /Melbourne Cup double captured the attention of the entire nation and he came so close with an incredibly brave runner- up finish behind another champion in Verry Elleegant. Remarkably that was to be the final time he raced.
We would like to give huge thanks to everyone associated with the horse throughout the journey. Steve Tregea for breeding the horse and training him for much of his career, Peter Moody for taking over the reigns and delivering so much joy to us and the racing public, all the jockeys that rode him during his career but particularly Brett Prebble and of course everyone who put so much of their time and energy into his rehabilitation, particularly Lee Evison and his team. We will advise in due course of his retirement home but rest assured the red carpet will be rolled out and he will live out his days in the best possible care.
Yours sincerely,
Incentivise Owners
