New track, new venue, but business as usual for gun Perth mare Amelia's Jewel

The star-four-year-old had a spin around Caulfield this morning (Tuesday) as she ramped up preparation for her next Melbourne assault.

Trainer Simon A Miller said it was the perfect hit out for Amelia’s Jewel ahead of the G1 Toorak Handicap (1600m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

Amelia’s Jewel is out to maintain her unbeaten status in Melbourne after living up to the massive hype at her previous two G2 starts.

The daughter of Siyouni won the Let’s Elope (1400m) at Flemington and the Stock Stakes (1600m) in track record time at Moonee Valley (1600m).

In an ominous sign to her Toorak rivals on the weekend, Miller said Amelia’s Jewel has improved since her Moonee Valley heroics two weeks ago.

“She was strong this morning (Tuesday)-proper strong,” Miller told The Races WA.

“She worked a thousand evens and home in 400, rolling up in 23 seconds.

“I planned on giving her a quiet week after Moonee Valley, night racing and running record time, but she was breathing fire last Friday.

“Her work on Saturday was just unreal and her fitness has improved since Moonee Valley.

“Her coat is there and she’s nearly on song.

“Saturday’s race will top her off nicely.”

What’s beyond the Toorak for Amelia’s Jewel is still up in the air according to Miller.

He said a decision on the Cox Plate in Melbourne or the Golden Eagle in Sydney will be decided next week.

Amelia’s Jewel is favourite in both races: $3.90 for the $10 million Golden Eagle (1500m) at Rosehill on November 4 and $4 for the $5 million Cox Plate (2040m) on October 28.

She is the raging favourite in Saturday’s Toorak, currently quoted $1.95 with Tabtouch.
